Paintsil reveals big plans by Legon Cities

The two-time Ghana champions (formerly known as Wa All Stars) have also revealed plans to construct a stadium and training facilities to develop players for  the local and international market.

Five-year development plan
A management member of the team, John Paintsil, who is also a former member of the Black Stars, revealed to the Daily Graphic that the projects formed part of the club’s five-year development plan to make Legon Cities one of most formidable sides in Ghana and on the continent.
Explaining why the academy was established, he noted that it was a key component of a five-year development plan to turn the fortunes of Legon Cities around to be competitive in Ghana and in Africa.
“We are offering our young players the experience and a professional setting for Ghana  to benefit from their talents. Within the five-year period, we should be able to  complete all these laudable projects to transform Legon Cities to be one of the most attractive  and successful football clubs in Africa,” Mr Paintsil noted.

Future stars
“The football academy has been established not only to groom talented young players to feed the senior team of Legon Cities, but also to develop these players into future football stars capable of competing favourably with their peers at home and abroad.”
A former player of English Premier League sides West Ham United and Fulham, Paintsil said they were on course to purchase a luxurious bus for their academy to facilitate their movements when the football season resumed.
He added that the construction of the stadium and a club house were part of a development plan to provide the best facilities available for the players and technical team to make the team very competitive in order to win trophies at the domestic and international levels .

 Top five teams in Africa
“We have a mission to be one of the top three teams after each league in Ghana and also become one of the top five teams in Africa. We were on course before the football season was suspended, but measures are being taken to stay on course when the season resumes,” said the former Ghana international who featured for the senior national team between 2003 and 2013.
