Manly Spain calls on GBA, promoters to ceasefire

He blamed Mr Nii Lante Vanderpuye, MP for Odododiodoo, for masterminding the election of Mr Neequaye, whom he claimed, had little knowledge and experience in boxing as compared to him.

“I blame Nii Lante Vanderpuye for all this, he worked for Mr Kotei Neequaye to be elected. I have been hearing a lot of stories since his election, but one can only keep quiet and watch,” he told Graphic Sports in a telephone interview in Accra last Wednesday.

Mr Spain’s comments followed the confusion which occurred during a meeting involving the Boxing Coaches Association, promoters and some stakeholders in Accra last Tuesday.

“Some of us have been in the sport for so long and know how to deal with the various stakeholders from a very matured point of view. I believe the voters made their choice and they must live with it,” he stated.

The veteran boxing manager and promoter, who had a long stint with comical boxer, Braimah Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, believed he could have handled things differently with the promoters and coaches.

He urged the GBA to sit with the aggrieved parties, listened to their concerns and address them to ensure the growth and development of the sport.

“Boxing is bigger than everyone, and we must learn to appreciate the fact that the sport’s interest and future is bigger than anyone’s interest,” he added.
