How Liverpool title win could help Arsenal seal £45m Thomas Partey transfer

Arsenal have been linked with Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey this summer and they could be helped in sealing a deal thanks to Liverpool and their Premier League title win. Their achievement means the Gunners will receive a bonus payment from the Reds.

That's because there was a clause included in the deal that saw Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leave the Emirates for Anfield.

The Daily Mail describe the amount of money the Gunners will receive as a windfall.

It will be good news for Mikel Arteta who is set to have a tight transfer budget in the summer window, especially if Arsenal fail to qualify for Europe next season.

The money received from the clause in Oxlade-Chamberlain's transfer deal could help the Gunners in their quest to sign Partey.

The 27-year-old is thought to be the top traget for Arsenal in the summer window as Arteta looks to overhaul his squad.

Partey has made 40 appearances fo far this season for Atletico and has been one of their standout performers.

Meanwhile, Arteta has sent a stern warning to his squad and told them they will only be staying if they are fully invested in his plans at the Emirates.

“All the players that are here, I am counting on them,” said Arsenal’s head coach.

“If they want to jump on the boat, they are more than welcome and that’s always my mindset.

“I am here to help all of them to improve individually and collectively and that is my job.”

Arteta refused to be drawn on whether he held a meeting with Matteo Guendouzi earlier this week regarding his attitude to life at the club.

The Spaniard added: “As I said in the press conference [after Southampton], whatever internal issues we have we will deal with them privately and I am never going to make any of that public.”

Arsenal return to action against Sheffield United in an FA Cup quarter-final clash later today (1pm).

David Luiz is set to return from a two-match suspension while Cedric Soares is still out of action due to a facial injury.

Arteta could rotate his side again with so many games in such quick succession with football returning amid the coronavirus pandemic.
