Golf: Akwaboah wins Captain One tourney



Akwaboah, a member of the Nsuta Golf Club, recorded a total score of 72 over two days to top a leaderboard of over 100 professional and amateur golfers. He received a trophy, a medal and GH₵5,000 worth of vouchers for his outstanding display.

He was trailed by last year’s winner, Torgah, who recorded a score of 74 to win a trophy, a medal and GH₵2,500 worth of vouchers, while Daniel Affum, who amassed 76 points, placed third and went home with a trophy, a bronze medal and GH₵1,500 worth of vouchers.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the president of Captain One Golf Society, Mr Pius Ayeh Appiah, commended the winner for beating Ghana’s leading golfer and other professional golfers to the ultimate prize.
“This shows that there are numerous talents in the country who could excel if given the platform and that is what Captain One has done over the past five years,” he noted.

“We are committed to developing golf and making it an avenue for people to earn a living at all levels from playing, coaching and other aspects of the game,” he stated.
For his part, the president of the Ghana Golf Association (GGA), Mr Mike Aggrey, commended Captain One for the outstanding competition which he said set the tone for an exciting golfing year.
