Meanwhile, the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSC) have commiserated with the GOC over the passing of former President Rawlings.

In separate communiques, the two bodies expressed regret and remorse over the passing of the former President.

“We are, particularly, touched by this huge loss and, through its Executive Committee, hereby convey to you our heartfelt condolences. Jerry Rawlings will  forever remain an icon, a pride of Africa. May God grant the Ghanaian People and the Sports and Olympic Movement of your country the fortitude to bear this loss and sail through these trying times. May his soul find sweet repose in the bosom of our Lord”, a statement signed by the ANOCA president, Mustapha Berraf, said.

Mr Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, president of CNOSC, said Rawlings entrenched Ghana’s democratic principles by ushering the country into the Fourth Republic and contributed to boosting the country’s economy.

He expressed his country’s condolence to the wife and family of the late former President and the GOC, adding that the Cameroonian people were with them in these difficult times.
