Coach Avram Grant remains optimistic that his Black Stars will recover and keep their African Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign on course despite finding themselves third on the Group C standing after the group's opening matches last Monday.
While Ghana surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose 1-2 to Senegal, Algeria survived the scare from South Africa, also coming from behind to win 3-1, leaving the Black Stars in a very dangerous position of losing out, unless they are able to win their remaining games against Algeria on Friday, then South Africa in the final group game.
Already, the permutations and calculations have begun, with talks on how and by what goal margin the Stars must win, while hoping that the results in the other matches favour them.
Coach Grant will not be drawn into that 'football fan' talk as he called these calculations, but stresses their fate was in their own hands to turn things around.
"No doubt it is a difficult situation we find ourselves in right now, but we will bounce back. In football, it is possible, hard work also pays and we are going to work harder to get our campaign back on track," Coach Grant told the Graphic Sports.
He dismissed the assertion that his inexperience at handling an African national team and playing in a tournament as the AFCON might have contributed to not getting it right in the opening game, stressing "it was one of those unfortunate days.
"In football you don't give up, you fight on and that is what we are going to do, fight on. We all knew our group was always going to be tight and that is what it is, we need not just wins, but goals and we will work towards that because in the end, making it out of the group may come down to goals difference," he said.
Algeria and Senegal lead on the group log with positive two and one goal respectively, while Ghana and South Africa trail with minus one and two goals in that order.
