Brendan Rodgers has lifted the lid on the plan Liverpool have hatched to get Luis Suarez in peak condition for his eagerly awaited return to action.
Suarez has served nine matches of the 10-game ban he was given by the FA in April for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic and his suspension will be complete after tomorrow’s clash with Southampton.
That will enable Suarez to be available for next Wednesday’s showdown with Manchester United in the Capital One Cup third round and it is highly likely Rodgers will take the opportunity to hand him an immediate recall.Though Suarez has not played a game in public for Liverpool since a friendly in Thailand on July 28, he has figured in a number of behind-closed-doors games at Melwood, including one yesterday against Burnley’s development squad, which the Clarets won 2-0.
Rodgers has left nothing to chance with regards Suarez’s fitness and Liverpool’s conditioning team have gone to great lengths in plotting the work he should be doing to guarantee he is as fit as can be for the trip to Old Trafford.
“We tried to map something out over the period he’s been out,” said Rodgers. ‘He’s played some games in pre-season, but when the league got started we organised some 11 v 11 matches behind closed doors, both among ourselves and bringing teams in.
