A Kumasi-based side, dominated by the Asante Kotoko under-19 team, will play the national under-17 team, the Black Starlets, at the Paa Joe Park today.
The match is the final stage of a five-day tournament to expose talented players from the Ashanti Region to a four-man scout’s team led by Aytac Erenler from Turkey for a possible transfer.
Kotoko under-19, King Faisal, Bechem, Asokwa Deportivo, KFC, Rainbow, Royals, Ebony and Golden Stars Academy are participating in what is expected to become an annual affair.
The FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi, the Ashanti Regional Sports Development Officer, Saka Acquaye, and a number of football big wigs, including the Technical Director of the FA, Francis Oti Akenteng, are all on board to give the boys the needed support.
The organiser of the tournament, Fred Acheampong, a sports administrator and a known face on GTV’s Sports Beat, told the Daily Graphic that scouts from known football nations, including England, as well as youth teams from other parts of the world would participate in next year’s programme.
