Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan, has attributed the Black Stars’ 1-2 defeat last Monday against Senegal in the Group C opener to lack of experience, according to Ghana Football Association source in Mongomo.
Gyan was forced out of the game due to malaria and Marseille winger Andre Ayew was made to captain the team.
In a post-match interview, Gyan stated: “I am disappointed. It got to a time we should have used our experience because they were putting pressure on us as we just needed a draw.
“Honestly they took control of the game in the last 30 minutes and we should have held on.
“It’s part of football but still very disappointing,” he stated.
Gyan disclosed that his health since last Monday had improved considerably and would make an appearance when Ghana take on Algeria in their second game.
“I am feeling much better and I am talking to the medical team. Hopefully, we will see improvement, in our next game,” he added.
The Stars were a pale shadow of themselves in the second half of the game as they failed to replicate their first half display.
Dede Ayew put the Ghanaians ahead in the 26th minute and held onto the lead till the end of the first half.
But the Senegalese came back strongly in the second half, kept the Ghanaians to their half and succeeded in scoring the equaliser through Mame Diouf before Moussa Sows late strike sealed it for them.
