As the Ghana Football Association(GFA) prepares to name a new national team coach next week, the two former Stars are reportedly eyeing the top job with Germany-based Addo said to be interested in succeeding Appiah just as Grant who had already  put in his application.

Last Friday at the sidelines of the FA’s abortive Congress at Prampram, its spokesperson, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, said the association was inviting applications from interested coaches and hoping to name a new coach by next week.

Sources close to 39-year-old Addo, who is in charge of the under-19 side of the German Bundesliga side, Hamburg SV, and briefly handled the first team following the dismissal of Thorsten Fink, said the former midfielder would jump at the opportunity to handle the side he featured for between 1999 and 2006, including the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

At this year’s World Cup in Brazil, Addo was appointed a scout for Appiah because of his deep insights into German football, and was highly commended for the job he did which saw the Black Stars hold world champions Germany 2-2 in a match described as the best of the tournament.

Addo, who played his entire football career in Germany with Bundelsiga sides such as Borussia Dortmund, FSV Mainz and Hamburg SV, holds a UEFA License B coaching certificate as well as a German Federation (DFB) coaching certificate.

It remains unclear whether he has already forwarded his application or sounded off his interest in the job to the GFA in view of his current contractual obligations towards Hamburg.

According to football website ghanasoccernet.com, onetime Stars striker Grant, who holds a UEFA license B coaching certificate, has sent in his application for the vacant job.

The 41-year-old, who made seven appearances for the Stars between 1996 and 1997, currently scouts for English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.

He last worked as manager for Conference National side, Woking, in 2008 where his reign lasted for four months.
