German coaching legend, Ottmar Hitzfeld, arrives in Accra next Monday for a historic visit that will provide him a rare opportunity to reconnect with some Ghanaian players who were once under his tutelage.
A reverred tactician, nicknamed Gottmar Hitzfeld, a name derived from German language, ‘Pun on Gott’, meaning a god, Hitzfieldcoached former Kumasi Asante Kotoko striker Opoku Nti at Grasshoppers, in Switzerland, and Osei Kuffuor at Bayern Munich.
Ottmar, who was voted twice as World Coach of the Year, will be the special guest for the official launch of AllSports.com.gh who are sponsoring the visit.
The renowned sports website owned by Switzerland-based media company, Ringier, has for 180 years been synonymous with excellence in journalistic products, particularly in entertainment and high-growth digital business models.
With a global employee base of nearly 8,000, Ringier produces over 120 newspapers and magazines, run several radio and TV stations and well over 90 web and mobile platforms in 14 countries.
Since 2012, Ringier, as part of its global expansion project, has established branches in Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Senegal with the All Sports platform as its major brand.
According to Samuel Botchway, products manager of Allsports.com, an elaborate programme has been lined up to make the visit of Ottmar a memorable one.
He said the programme would create the opportunity for the German to interact with coaches, team managers as well as some club officials of the Premier League.
During the visit, he said Ottmar would join some selected fans, football stars and other dignitaries to watch a Champions League game at the Silverbird Cinema. He is also expected to donate to a grassroot football project at Nima in Accra.
But the climax of the visit will be on Wednesday, April 2, when he joins other dignitaries to officially launch the Allsports.com.
