Okwawu demand pound of flesh
Soccer Mountaineers, Okwawu United, are at the throat of AshantiGold, demanding €112,500 (about GH¢337,500) being their share of goalkeeper Fatau Dauda’s transfer to Orlando Pirates from AshantiGold in 2013.

Okwawu United transferred the Black Stars goalkeeper to AshantiGold about nine years ago with a contract clause that entitled Okwawu to 30 per cent of any onward transfer of the goalkeeper.
According to the official website of Orlando Pirates, the South African side bought the goalkeeper for €375,000, but Okwawu United say they are yet to receive their share of €112,500.
A member of Okwawu’s management board in charge of marketing and communication, Charles Boahene, told Graphic Sports that AshantiGold had so far failed to honour their part of the contract terms relating to the transfer of Dauda between the two sides.
“We have made various enquiries from AshantiGold, but the response has been the same: they don’t have the money,” Mr Boahene said. “As far as we know, Orlando Pirates have no business any longer with Okwawu United in terms of Dauda’s transfer fees.
Our understanding is that all outstanding financial matters have been settled,” he insisted. “We are now being compelled to seek our means of redress to retrieve our share of the player’s transfer, and very soon we may resort to the GFA’s structures or any other body we find appropriate.”
Dauda himself received €150,000 as signing-on fee when he moved from AshantiGold to Orlando Pirates, according to official figures from the South African club.
But CEO of Ashgold, Cudjoe Fianoo told the Graphic Sports they would not engage in any media banter with Okwawu United over the transfer of the Black Stars’ shot stopper.
He challenged them to channel their grievances to the appropriate quarters, insisting that Ashgold also knew the laws of football and were ready to test this case anywhere.
