Milovan Rajevac unveiled as Black Stars coach

Serbian trainer, Milovan Rajevac, has been unveiled new coach of the Black Stars for a year with a two-year automatic renewal option if he qualifies the team to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Coach ‘Milo’, as affectionately called, is returning to train Ghana for the second time in his career since leaving the team in 2010 after Ghana’s bright World Cup campaign in South Africa.

Addressing a press briefing at the GFA’s secretariat in Accra, General Secretary of the association, Prosper Harrison Addo, explained that the Executive Council endorsed the re-appointment of Milo following his nomination by the three-member committee that were tasked to headhunt for C.K Akonnor’s successor.

He said the Serbian has been given a specific target of ensuring World Cup qualification for the senior national team as well as winning next year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroun.

“We are here to announce the new Black Stars coach to you and to put and end to weeks of speculation in the media. The deal is for a year with an automatic renewal option if he is able to secure a World Cup qualification.

“Looking at our current situation, we believe Milo is the best option to lead the team to its destination and the Executive Council thought it wise to endorse his nomination when it came to them,” Addo noted.

Coach Milo’s first assignment comes next month when the Black Stars regroup to play a doubleheader in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe.

Under the previous coach C.K Akonnor, Ghana beat Ethiopia 1-0 in Cape Coast and lost by the same scoreline in South Africa to the Bafana Bafana and now occupy the second position in Group G.
