Coach Malik Jabir believes the Black Meteors are ready to run over the Mambas of Mozambique in their All Africa Games return leg qualifier at the Tamale Stadium at 3pm tomorrow.
The Meteors have a 0-1 deficit from the first leg to clear but the veteran coach is convinced that the rich blend of local and foreign-based players at his disposal can help accomplish the Herculean task.
Fully satisfied with the workrate of the team, Coach Malik and his assistant Abdul Karim Zito had the luxury of resting the Kotoko trio of Frank Sarfo Gyamfi, goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi and Kojo Poku whose own goal gave the Mozambicans the slim advantage over the Ghanaians.
According to him, he merely invited a fourth Kotoko striker, Dauda Mohammed, as back-up for Free State Stars striker Abdul Basit Adam who is among a handful of foreign-based players who were called up for the crucial assignment.
The absence of Ofori Antwi leaves Wa All Stars’ Richard Ofori as the safe hands for tomorrow’s game, while Italy-based Saeed Ahmed Saaed, Abdul Rahman Chibsah, FC Sion’s Ebenezer Assifuah, Peter Oduro Kwarteng and Patrick Asmah could all be in Malik’s starting line-up.
According to the chairman of the Meteors Management Committee, Mr M.N.S. Doe, the match was shifted to Tamale since the venue has become a good haven for the various national teams in recent times.
The Meteors are counting on the massive support of Tamale fans to enable them to scale over Mozambique and book a date with Liberia.
