Liberty will stay — Coach Lamptey

The head coach of Liberty Professionals, George Lamptey, says his side will work hard to grab all six points in their remaining two games against Inter Allies and Bechem United to escape relegation.

Coach Lamptey, who guided the Scientific Soccer lads to defeat league title hopefuls, Wa All Stars, 1-0 last Sunday — their first home win in the second round — attributed the club’s poor form to non-payment of salaries and bonuses.

“No, we will not be relegated. Usually when there are side issues in football it affects some of the players. The salaries and bonuses were not coming and it distracted some of the players and also affected our performance. They went on strike but we were promised that by Wednesday all arrears would be cleared.

“So, hopefully if that is done we will be released and the players will concentrate on their game and we will go to Inter Allies and win. We did very well in the first round but in the second round we slack a bit but we have two games to go and we want to do well. On Sunday against Inter Allies, it is a must-win game for us”, he added.

Players of Liberty Professionals, who were facing relegation prior to their Week 28 fixture against Wa All Stars last Sunday, boycotted training in demand of their salary arrears.

However, the coach said management had promised to settle all arrears, thus gingering the players to rise to the occasion today and Sunday.
