Defending champions and league leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sunday suffered a jolt in their sweet run towards a successful defence of the league litle when they succumbed 0-1 to Liberty Professionals at the Carl Reindorf Park at Dansoman.
Striker Cissey Mohammed’s 51st minute flick to the far corner of the net was all the homesters needed to settle matters in this thrilling encounter watched a huge crowd dominated by supporters of the Porcupine Warriors.
Kotoko took the game to the homesters from the blast of the whistle but Liberty soaked the pressure and waited to catch their opponents on the break.
However, chances were few and far between in the first half and both teams found it difficult to control the ball on the rugged pitch.
Back from recess, Coach George Lamptey”s tactics seemed to have worked much better as Liberty surged ahead in search of the opener.
This paid off on 51st minute when winger Michael Appiah’s solo run into the box saw him crossed to an advancing Cissey Mohammed who found the back of the net.
Kotoko quickly switched from defence to attack and this nearly paid off but striker Seidu Bancy lacked the finesse and the cutting edge to put the visitors on level terms.
