Liberty Professionals, Ebusua Dwarfs, Inter Allies caught in relegation net

Liberty Professionals’ battle for survival in the Ghana Premier League (GPL)  ended on the rocks when they settled for a 0-0 draw with fellow relegation threatened King Faisal at their newly adopted Sogakope Park on Sunday July 18.

With a total of 39 points from 33 matches prior to their match against Faisal, Liberty who entered the GPL in 1998  needed the maximum points to stay  afloat in the GPL, but their opponents had 40 points and needed just a point to escape the relegation net.

King Faisal fought gallantly to get the needed results, thus pushing Liberty into relegation for the first time in the top flight.

Moments after the match ended, players of King Faisal hugged each other in celebration of their feat, while the playing body of Liberty and technical team remained glued to their feet with heads bowed, bemoaning the agony of competing in the soccer wilderness.

The relegation net also caught Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs who in spite of their 2-1 victory over visiting Bechem United were also relegated into the second tier of Ghana Football alongside Inter Allies who had already booked a place in the DOL ahead of their last match against Ashgold last Saturday where they suffered a humiliating 0-7 defeat — the heaviest in the GPL this season.

Incidentally, Dwarfs, Sharks and Faisal had 41 points apiece, but the head to head encounter favoured both Sharks and Faisal, making them have the opportunity to play in the GPL next season.
