Kwarasey: I’m open to Stars return

One time Black Stars first choice goalkeeper, Adam Larsen Kwarasey, is anticipating a quick return to the national team after tweeting that he was ready to end his self-imposed exile.

The 28-year-old Portland Timbers shot-stopper has fallen out of the perking order after ruling himself out of national duties for over a year, despite churning out some good performances with the US-based club, which has won him the 2015 MLS Save of the Year.

Kwarasey last appeared for the Black Stars at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but has since played no role in the national team after losing his position to Fatau Dauda at the Mundial, following which he carried through a threat not to respond to national call if  the Stars’ goalkeeper’s trainer, Nassamu Yakubu, remained at post.

In response to a question by a fan, Benjamin Epton, during an open session with Portland Timbers’ fans on the club’s Twitter page last Saturday, Kwarasey confirmed he was ready to respond to the national call.

@TimbersFC #AskAK12 “When are we going to see Kwarasey play again for the Black Stars of Ghana? The goalie left his future in the hands of Ghana coach Avram Grant by saying he will end his exile “when I get an invitation.”

He also debunked the notion he was not as committed to the national team as he was to the club. “Who says I'm not committed?” he fired back.

After his hiatus, the player was expected to return for the Nations Cup early this year but he failed to respond to Avram Grant’s invitation on the grounds that he was not in form to play for the team having been on holidays with his family.
Since then, Spain-based Razak Braimah has warmed himself up to become Grant’s first choice goalkeeper, but the Israeli trainer said last week that he had no problem with the Timbers goalie but did not say when he would return to the team.

The coach outlined his criteria for selection as “quality, personality, and players who put the national team first”.
