Kumasi Asante Kotoko Wednesday whipped visiting Heart of Lions 4:0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium to break their home winning drought as the first round of the First Capital Plus premier league closed.
The win by the Porcupine Warriors brought excitement and confidence to the home fans who had in recent times been threatening to take on players, management and the technical team a chain of poor results.
Unlike the recent loss to the Algerian MC El Eulma in the CAF Champions League where they had to be whisked away in an armoured personnel carrier by the Ghana Police, this time round the supporters cheered and shook hands with the players.
The game was only 15 minutes when Kotoko earned a penalty following a dangerous tackle on striker Ahmed Toure. The Ivorian import converted from the spot.
Three minutes later, Prince Baffour utilised a counter break to net the second goal for Kotoko.
In the second half, Heart of Lions put up a spirited fight but all they did could not yield any results as Kotoko went ahead to increase the tally with two more goals.
Nineteen minutes into the second half, Latif Mohammed registered his name on the score sheet with a spectacular header from a long pass.
The fourth goal was secured by Emmanuel Asante in the 70th minute to leave the visiting Lions thoroughly beaten.
