Kumasi Asante Kotoko clinched the MTN FA Cup on Sunday after defeating Inter Allies 2:1 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The 1st Capital Plus League Champions were stretched into extra time after Inter Allies cancelled an 8th-minute lead by Kotoko, with forward Seidu Bancey cheekily tapping in the game winner deep inside the second half of extra time.
Kotoko who had dominated the extra period and opened many scoring chances but failed to convert any, found a solution in diminutive midfielder, Jordan Opoku, who, with three minutes to end it all sprinted powerfully on the right and delivered a low grounder that somehow slipped through goalkeeper Osei Kwame's hands for an easy tap in by Bancey.
While the goal ignited wild jubilation among Kotoko fans, players and officials, it was largely an expected end, as the Inter Allies players looked too exhausted throughout the extra time period, going down at the least opportunity.
Kotoko, who played under the direction of their Assistant coach, Michael Osei, have played in three FA Cup finals in the last four seasons, failing on the two earlier occasions to win.
