It was a remarkable spectacle to behold when versatile Akwasi Bobie Ansah made a surprise appearance at the Kumasi Asante Kotoko training grounds last Wednesday to have his first training session with the reigning league champions at a time Hearts of Oak were dying to have him back in their fold. Bobie Ansah reportedly showed up at the Kotoko training grounds at the instance of Coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani and he made an instant impression which might see him feature in the red colours in the coming weeks.

Kotoko are said to be looking for a fitting replacement for their trusted full back, Yaw Frimpong, who is on his way to DR Congo champions T.P. Mazembe alongside team mate Daniel Nii Adjei, and they seem to have found the required qualities in Bobie-Ansah even before he settles with the club.

According to reports, the former Hearts defender put up an outstanding performance to the satisfaction of Coach Dramani, prompting Kotoko officials to move swiftly to seal a deal with the player before their rivals Hearts outwit them.

Bobie Ansah, a highly-experienced defender who featured for King Faisal and Kessben FC before joining Hearts two seasons ago, secured his floating status only last week after terminating an eleventh-hour contract with Berekum Chelsea.

After the expiration of his two-year contract with Hearts at the end of the 2011/12 season, Bobie Ansah decided to apply for floating status to seek fresh challenges elsewhere after an offer from Hearts fell below his expectation.

However, though Chelsea who had expressed interest in the player indeed agreed on a deal with him for the ongoing season, later events which fell below the player’s expectation compelled him to request for the termination of the two-year contract and was mutually agreed upon by the two parties.

As a free agent, the former Black Satellites, Meteors and local Black Stars stalwart defender is free to join any club of his choice under the FA ‘s regulations after being declared as such by the FA Floating Status Committee.

But it appears Kotoko are already leading the race for Bobie Ansah’s signature, despite Hearts’ late rally for the player’s services following their poor run in the Glo premiership.
