Kotoko crowned champs

Accra Hearts of Oak botched rivals Asante Kotoko’s 5-0 dream in their penultimate First Capital Plus Premier League which ended goalless at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi yesterday as Kotoko’s coronation as league champions received little funfare.

Indeed, the fans thronged the stadium not to witness the presentation of the league trophy but to be part of history following the highly publicised 5-0 prediction by the club's CEO Opoku Nti.

And when that dream fizzled out, the fans understandably began to leave the stadium before the formal presentation by FA Executive Committee member, George Afriyie, PLB boss, Welbeck Abra-Appiah, and their team.

But Hearts were lucky to have ended the match unscathed despite injuries sustained by their two key defenders, necessitating series of hold-ups as over-ambitious Kotoko run out of ideas at some point.

The main architect of Hearts survival was goalkeeper Tetteh Luggard who pulled series of dramatic saves from the eighth minute to become the toast of the fans.

A momentary loss of concentration by the Hearts defence gave winger Aziz Yusif the urge to fire a low grounder which was timeously parried into play as striker Seidu Bancey lay in wait to do damage.

As the game warmed up, it was reduced to a battle between the Kotoko attack and goalkeeper Luggard whose superlative performance frustrated Seidu Bancey and his attacking colleagues.

Hearts momentary attack on 25th minute would have changed the chemistry of the game but Selasi Adjei's one-time shot within the penalty box missed the upright narrowly.
