Kotoko, Ashgold agree to represent Ghana in CAF competitions

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and Ashantigold Sporting Club have agreed to represent Ghana in Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) competitions in the 2020/2021 season.

That was a swift response to a proposal announced by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council last Tuesday, June 30.

According to close sources, the 12-member Kotoko Board of Directors, took the decision to accept the GFA’s call to represent the nation in the Champions League campaign at a meeting in Kumasi on Friday.

Earlier on Thursday, the president of Ashantigold, Dr Kwaku Frimpong, also confirmed his club's participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The nomination of Kotoko and Ashgold for Africa became necessary following the cancellation of the 2019/20 season by the GFA due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Interestingly, Kotoko and Ashgold were Ghana's representatives in the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup respectively in the past two seasons.

While the Porcupine Warriors won the Normalisation Committee's Tier I Special Competition to enable them to play in the CAF Champions League last season, the Miners won the Tier II version to feature in the Confederation Cup.
