Jones Alhassan-Abu: CAS would be fair in their verdict

A KEY member of the campaign team of Kurt Okraku in the last Ghana Football Association (GFA) elections believes the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will dismiss the case between Wilfred Kwaku Osei Palmer and the GFA since it is unmeritorious.

He said despite his indifference towards the ruling of the dispute brought up by Palmer, he was confident that the case would be thrown out by CAS.

Speaking to Graphic Sports in an exclusive interview last Friday, he insisted that Palmer had no case so he would be very surprised if his unfair disqualification argument was upheld by CAS.

“I will be very surprised if he wins the case. I don’t want to pre-empt the judgement and I don’t want to be in contempt of the court since the matter is still yet to be decided, but Osei-Palmer wasn’t candid with the Normalisation Committee,” he stated.

According to him, his personal encounter with the apex sports court showed how fair and firm CAS was in its decision-making process.

“I have had my personal experience with CAS. In fact they are fair and firm; the decision can go either way,” he emphasised.

However, the former CEO of Real Tamale United (RTU) insisted that irrespective of the outcome, which is expected by July 17, it would have no effect on Kurt Okraku’s presidency.

“This is a decision that has nothing to do with Kurt or the election of the FA president. It was a committee which disqualified him based on his past deeds and misdeeds,” he affirmed.

He added that should the ruling go in Osei-Palmer’s favour, the outcome would be just to enable him to contest in a future election and not an attempt to bar him.

He also prayed and hoped that the ruling would not divide Ghana football but rather unite their front.
