Ghana goalkeeper, Daniel Agyei, has revealed his refusal to use ‘black magic’ was one of the reasons why his contract with South African side, Free State Stars, was cancelled.
The 25-year-old returned to Liberty Professionals last year after agreeing to the termination of his contract with the South African side.
In the one season he spent with Free State Stars, Agyei started brilliantly but succumbed to injuries that ruled him out of action.
In an interview with Accra-based Starr FM, the goalkeeper claimed that his refusal to use ‘black magic’ contributed to the termination of his contract.
Agyei said: “When I came back [from injury] they started telling me I have to use some cream but I said no, because when I was signing the contract there was no mention of the use of any cream.
“They call it ‘Muti’ there but in Ghana we call it ‘Juju’.
“I told them I will not do that because it was not in the terms when I was signing the deal.
“They said I have to use it because it is part of the team’s beliefs. Whenever I used it, I conceded a lot of goals.
“The boss was mad at me when I eventually refused to use it.
“It was later on when I came to Ghana and I read that they have cancelled my contract.”
