A directive by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), aimed at running the Ghana league with representatives of the Premier League clubs appears to be generating confusion as the two biggest actors, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak, have breached the agreement underpining the directive.
The GFA, somewhere last year, at its Executive Committee meeting resolved to adopt a broader means of organising the Premier League and opted for a new structure made up of representatives of all the 16 Premier League clubs to be headed by Welbeck Abra- Appiah as chairman and Ashford Tettey-Oku as his vice.
The two were appointed by the GFA.
Subsequently, the GFA in a letter dated December 23, 2014 and signed by Emmanuel Gyimah, acting GFA general secretary, requested all the 16 clubs to nominate representatives to serve on the board for the 2014/2015 season.
It made it clear that the representatives should not be below the rank of a director of the club.
But Hearts presented Alhaji Amadou Brimah aka Alhaji Akambi, while Kotoko nominated Edmund Ackah both of who are ineligible.
Alhaji Akambi resigned as a director of Hearts some few weeks ago and he was said to have been replaced by Barimah Atuahene, the new chairman of the National Chapters Committee of Hearts.
In the case of Ackah, who until the end of last season was a director of Medeama SC, is still not a director of Kotoko.
In the particular case of Hearts, sources told Graphic Sports that the board initially nominated Joseph Addo, a former Black Stars defender currently in charge of Hearts corporate affairs, but was jettisoned when the board discovered at the last minute that he was not a director.
The decision to nominate Alhaji Akambi is said to have evoked some dissonance among some board members who believed the choice should have been someone who could be groomed to benefit both the club and Ghana football as a whole.
Among the representatives on the new PLB are Benjamin Nanabanyin Eyeson, (director Sekondi Hasaacas), Eric Delali Senaya, (CEO Inter Allies), Alex Ackumey (Director, New Edubiase), Albert Commey (CEO, Aduana), Edward Hussein Abugri (Director, Ashantigold), Oloboi Commodore (Director, Accra Great Olympics), E Larbi Amoah( Director, Medeama SC) and Samuel Oduro Nyarko (CEO, Wa All Stars).
The rest are Kingsley Osei Bonsu (director, Bechem United), Paul Agyemang-Dua (Director, B.A. United), Felix Ansong/George Afriyie (Both directors of Liberty Professionals) and George Ofosuhene Peprah (Director, WAFA).
