Hasaacas Ladies champs again

Sekondi Hasaacas Ladies have successfully defended their National Women's League title last Saturday after beating rivals, Fabulous Ladies 5-4 on penalties in the champions' game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

In what was a repeat of last year's final, both Hasaacas and Fabulous played a high tactical game, creating some decent chances but failed to find the net and the winners had to be determined through a penalty shootout.

Fabulous lacked the bite upfront, obviously missing top striker Agnes Aduako's influence on the game. The striker, who finished as the top scorer this season with 17 goals, is recovering from injury.

What was to be a glorious moment for former national goalkeeper Memunatu Sulemana, in posts for Fabulous Ladies ended in disappointment as she painfully watched her penalty kick graze the post and rolled away to hand the championship title to Hasaacas.

Memunatu had saved Fabulous from some sticky situations, particularly in the final 15 minutes as she brilliantly dealt with onslaughts from Hasaacas, including stopping a penalty kick during open play.

Meanwhile, Soccer Intellectuals escaped the relegation net in style, beating Oforikrom Ladies 9-0 in their play-off.
Winneba-based Intellectuals were 5-0 ahead in the first half and scored four more in the second to maintain their place in the league, while Oforikrom joined Ayola and Sharp Arrows in relegation.
