Asamoah Gyan's availability for Ghana's World Cup qualifier against Zambia tomorrow remains a major concern for Black Stars Coach Kwasi Appiah.
The striker is racing against time to get back his fitness ahead of the game at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Gyan limped off the field during the team's training session on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium, almost immediately after goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey had been withdrawn from the squad due to injury.
Appiah is not prepared to take any risk with Gyan, explaining that he needs to put forward a strong team against the Chipolopolos of Zambia.
“We cannot not risk Gyan or take chances by fielding a weak team,” said Appiah.
“We’ll monitor Gyan's condition to enable him to make a quick decision.
“He is our captain and a very good player, but if he is not fit, we don’t take that risk in such a situation. We know Ghanaians are anxious to see him in action tomorrow, but seriously, we cannot take such chances,” he stated.
Ghana needs, at least, a draw against the Chipolopolo at the Baba Yara Stadium to qualify for the next stage of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
