Ghana-Sudan World Cup rescheduled for Essien Charity Game

Michael EssienDoubts over the Michael Essien Charity Game scheduled for next month has been cleared as Ghana’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan is shifted.  The glamorous event put together by the Real Madrid star was cast in doubt as the Ghana Football Association reportedly failed to sanction the game due to a clash of date with the crucial Black Stars World Cup qualifier against Sudan.

However, the change of date for the fixture in Omdurman from June 7 to 8 has given confirmation to the big event which will see world football icons – Cristiano Ronaldo, Mario Balotelli, Kevin-Prince, Ashley Cole, Malouda and the entire Real Madrid contingent, including Jose Mourinho, come to Accra for the game.

The Essien Charity Game which was first organised in 2011 is to create awareness of the need for Africans to make efforts to inspire the youth towards peace, hope and inspiration.

Though international stars will be available to play part of the game, Ghana’s World Cup qualifier a day later means none of the Black Stars players will be able to play a part in the game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

France-based Andre and Jordan Ayew who are on temporary retirement from the Black Stars have reportedly declared their availability for the game.

This means, local fans will be seeing Kevin-Prince Boateng, Michael Essien, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew and Michael Essien feature in the game.

All these players are not available for selection to Ghana by coach James Kwesi Appiah as they are on temporary retirement.
