The headline sponsor of the Ghana Premier League, First Capital Plus Bank, has unveiled at a ceremony in Accra a new trophy to be handed out to the winners of the 2013/2014 season.
The gold-plated trophy, which stands at 90cm, was handed over to the president of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, along with four miniature models last Monday.
On arrival at the Kotoka International Airport from Turkey, the trophy was paraded through the principal streets of Accra in a glass-case under tight security en route to the GFA Secretariat.
The winner of the current First Capital Plus Premier League, which ends on May 18, will be presented the new trophy alongside a miniature trophy for keeps. However, the winner will return the giant trophy later to the GFA, but a club stands to win it for keeps after annexing the Premier League on three occasions.
The trophy will be displayed at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi today where Kumasi Asante Kotoko host Heart of Lions.
