Ghana Football Association’s decision to rotate Black Stars home matches at major sports stadia in Ghana is likely to defeat the purpose of taking advantage of home grounds to win matches, a former vice chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Yaw Owusu, has stated.
In a statement issued last Friday, he said home matches almost invariably ought to be scheduled on a familiar venue where the team has massive support. It is believed that because of the inherit advantage that could be reaped there [traditional home ground], local teams capitalise on it to win such matches.”
However, Mr Owusu noted that the FA’s decision “will not be in the best interest of the nation” because he felt the rotation of matches was an attempt by the FA to please or displease certain home fans.
“If we should have a situation like that, it would mean, Black Stars will always be playing on unfamiliar grounds, thus putting the Black Stars at a disadvantage which could be a gain to the visiting team.
The statement said it was important for the FA to be bold enough to select only one venue as home ground for the Stars irrespective of the circumstances.
