Reigning MTN FA Cup champions, Medeama SC, face the prospect of ending the season trophyless if they lose to newly promoted Feyenoord Academy in the MTN FA Cup today at the Feyenoord Park, Gomoa Fetteh.
The Mauves’ fortunes have plummeted in recent weeks, after being dumped out of the CAF Confederation Cup by AC Leopards of Congo and falling into the relegation zone on the back of two consecutive losses, albeit having played two games less than their rivals at the foot of the league log.
To put Medeama's current poor spell in context, they have won just once (2-0 against Leopards) in their last eight games leaving Peruvian trainer, Carlos Roberto Paulette with no choice but to quickly re-capture their early season brilliance, if they are to salvage their season and retain the trophy.
The last team to retain the MTN FA Cup was Accra Hearts of Oak in 1999 and 2000 and Medeama will be keen to repeat the feat.
However, they come up against, a sensational Feyenoord side-flying high after securing promotion to the premiership on the back of three solid victories in the play-offs.
The Fetteh-based side were brilliant throughout the qualifying campaign for the premiership, losing once, winning 12 and drawing four times.
In terms of playing personnel, Medeama will line up household names such as Michael Helegbe, Kabiru Imoro and Theophilus Anobaah while Feyenoord possess dangerous unknowns such as Kennedy Boateng and Samuel Tetteh, who will be eager to record a memorable giant-killing.
