Michael Essien captained Chelsea to victory in the Capital One Cup third-round match against Swindon last Tuesday night.
The Ghanaian international was playing his first competitive match for the club since returning from a loan spell at Spanish side Real Madrid.
Essien lasted the entire duration and seems to have done enough to convince his Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.
The versatile player justified why he should be part of Chelsea's squad to face London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
He was one of 10 changes Jose Mourinho made from the victory over Fulham, with the likes of Fernando Torres, new signing Willian and Juan Mata starting.
And Mata, the club's player of the year for the past two seasons, certainly put in an industrious, roving performance.
His defence-splitting pass sent Torres clear while, just two minutes later, the midfielder looked destined to score himself, only for impressive Swindon Town goalkeeper Wes Foderingham to parry his effort into the path of Torres for the opener.
Torres turned provider with a neat bit of skill to set up Ramires soon after and that was the way it stayed - with two clinical attacks proving the difference against a flat-footed Swindon backline.
