Accra-based Division One side,Tudu Mighty Jets, are urging the MTN FA Cup Committee (FACC) to apply the rules governing the competition by re-instating them at the quarter-final stage of the 2013/2014 MTN FA Cup.
Mighty Jets suffered elimination at the hands of Ashgold at the round of 16 stage but the Miners subsequently failed to turn up ahead of their quarter-final game with Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko had initially been given the nod to play in the semi finals after AshantiGold did not turn up for the match on Sunday, April 13, 2014.
However, the Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee have been petitioned for adjudication.
General Manager of Mighty Jets, James Oyedeji, contends that per Article 9, clause section 5 of the competition’s rules, Mighty Jets, who were eliminated 4-2 on penalties by Ashgold at the round of 16 stage must automatically play the competition at the quarter-final stage.
Article 9 (5) of the FA Cup regulations states, “If a team withdraws or is withdrawn, or fails to turn up for a match at any stage of the competition, that team’s position is forfeited and given to the last club it eliminated.
“Mighty Jets do not want to go into the merits and demerits of Ashgold’s withdrawal. We have already petitioned the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in this regard because the rules are very clear. The Disciplinary Committee of the FA must rule in the favour of Mighty Jets”, he added.
Mighty Jets, who failed to make it to the play-off of the Divison One league, are looking forward to taking on defending league champions and last year’s losing finalists, Kotoko, after the resolution of the dispute.
