Coach Owusu backs Mospacka on Medeama sale

Former head coach of Medeama Sporting Club, Prince Yaw Owusu, has described his former employers’ decision to sell the club as “one of the best and timely decisions ever taken at the club”, adding that any attempt by the current management to further handle the club could lead to its collapse.

Coach Owusu, who is currently on holidays in Hamburg, Germany, yesterday told the Graphic Sports over the telephone that there was no way his former boss and bankroller of Medeama, Moses Armah (Mospacka), would make financial gains from the club, looking at the current situation, hence the need to sell it.

“I like Mospacka a lot and I’m happy he took that decision. If he doesn’t sell Medeama now he will go bankrupt because he keeps spending money to run the club and he is not getting anything back”.

“Football is business, and while some people are making money out of it, he keeps making huge investments and keeps losing, so if he doesn’t sell the club it will eventually collapse”, Coach Owusu noted.

According to Coach Owusu despite his sudden departure from the Tarkwa-based club, he still has a cordial relationship with Mospacka and wished he found investors to take over the club soon. He was, however, non-commital when asked whether he would love to rejoin the club once it changed hands.

The club ended its relationship with Coach Owusu weeks after missing out on the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup. Apparently disappointed with the club’s performance, angry fans prevented Coach Owusu from training with the team few days after their elimination.

Owusu failed to show up on the bench in Medeama’s last three Premier League games till he was finally released based on mutual consent.

Medeama joined Ghana Football in 2008 from Division Two and fought their way to the top flight, following the eventual takeover of Kumasi-based Kessben FC a few seasons back.

Though they have never won the league, they have been to Africa twice after their MTN FA Cup successes in 2013 and 2015.
