Coach Adotey takes over at Medeama

Coach Evans Adotey has taken over the reins of Medeama Sporting Club following the mutual termination of Prince Owusu’s contract.Coach Owusu stands accused of being the cause of Medeama’s failure to qualify for the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup and has since been in the bad books of the club’s angry fans, compelling management to part ways with him by mutual consent.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday, the Chief Executive of the club, James Essilfie, said the dissatisfied supporters virtually prevented the coach from training the players after Medeama’s exit, for which reason he notified management of his decision to quit.

According to Mr Essilfie, the situation made goalkeeper’s trainer, Ben Owu, to sit on the bench when Medeama beat Dwarfs 2-0 in their Week 27 league encounter at Cape Coast.

He explained that since Coach Owusu only staged a comeback after a stint in The Sudan, it was easy parting ways with the man who was employed mainly to develop young talents.

Coach Owusu was signed on by Medeama for a two-year term two seasons ago but was later released to assist Coach Kwasi Appiah in FC Khartoum in The Sudan.

In his absence, Technical Director, Coach Adotey, reverts to the coaching role till the end of the season as fifth-placed Medeama chase a top-four finish.

Coach Adotey has been a trusted coach of the Tarkwa-based club in the past seasons but for his additional responsibility as the Black Maidens coach, which sees him leaving his post anytime the national female U-17 team has an international assignment.

The Maidens are scheduled to participate in the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in Jordan next month.
