Clubs demand increase in share of FIFA money

Premier League clubs have impressed on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to review the critieria used in sharing the FIFA COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund for its members.

According to the clubs, their share of the money was too meagre, hence the need for th GFA to reconsider the amount they intended to pay to each of the clubs.

This came to light when the clubs met officials of the local football governing body at the FA Secretariat last Thursday.

Sources close to Graphic Sports said the crisis meeting was to enable the FA to explain the mode of disbursement of the money to the clubs. However, the clubs were not satisfied with the explanation given by the GFA.

“The clubs complained about the amount they were supposed to receive and wanted the FA to increase it but the FA said they would go and see what they could do about it so they would meet again later and settle it,” the source revealed.

The GFA is expected to receive about $1.5m from FIFA, in addition to $300,000 from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) to cushion its members during the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the source, even though the FA agreed to reconsider their issue, he was convinced that nothing would happen because there is no way the FA will increase the amount to the clubs.

“I can tell you that nothing will happen because the FA will come back to the same position and there would be no increment in the money for the clubs,” the source stated.
