The Citi FM Sports team is bringing life into weekend radio in Ghana again, after officially launching the 2013/2014 coverage of the English football season with the promise of exciting coverage.
The "classy launch" brought together football lovers and representatives from the sponsors , Coca Cola and Samsung.
Held in a modest setting, the Citi team hosted the event on the live broadcast of the Community Shield game which Manchester United won 2-0 over Wigan Athletic.
"I am pretty sure this season will be more unpredictable than the last one because the managers at the top have changed," said Jonas Asamoah, a fan who attended the launch at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
Some dignitaries, including Hon. Fifi Kwetey, the Minister in charge of Financial and Allied Institutions at the Presidency, hoped their favourite teams would carry the day come next May.
"Chelsea are taking the league for sure because Sir Alex Ferguson, who was the only stumbling block, is no more there!", he stated.
Christopher Opoku, a journalist and an ardent Liverpool fan, noted: "Premier League broadcast gives people who don't have the opportunity to see the games on television for one reason or other to be able to do so."
Having joined the Citi FM train for this season as they did in the last one, Coca Cola's operations marketing manager for Equatorial Africa, Mensah Senadza, expressed delight at the expectations of the fans.
"We know that the passion of the people in Ghana is football and Coca Cola is excited to be a part of this venture, he added.
The coverage of the English football season would be anchored by Gary Al-Smith, while Nathan Quao remains the in-house pundit, whose analyses have been hailed by the fans.
Meanwhile, Citi Sports has also announced the introduction of two professional footballers: Gifty Appiah of the senior national female team, the Black Queens, and Reginald Asante of Liberty Professionals.
Citi FM will have rights for all the games in the English Premier League, the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup for a period of three seasons.
