After their abysmal performance against local rivals Liberty Professionals at the Carl Reindorf Park at Dansoman, Accra Hearts of Oak face yet another tough test on Sunday against Kpando Heart of Lions at the Accra Sports Stadium as the First Capital Plus Premier League reaches the 24th week this weekend.
The Kpando lads are in great shape and have posted some outstanding performances in their last three outings after drawing 2:2 with Inter Allies at home, embarrassing league leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko 1-0 in Kumasi and winning by a similar margin against New Edubiase United.
The visitors, who are in third position and trail Hearts by just one point, pose a big threat to the Phobians, who must devise an antidote to the runs of Lions’ midfield duo, Isaac Osae and Edmund Owusu-Ansah.
In a similar vein, Tarkwa-based Medeama SC return to the Premier League after their recent CAF Confederation Cup success, with a home clash against King Faisal, who are in a battle to avoid relegation.
Faisal were dealt a big blow yesterday after their coach, Dorian Marin, was handed a touchline ban for the rest of the season by the GFA disciplinary committee.
Complacency seem to be affecting league leaders, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who have posted inconsistent performances lately, and on Sunday they need to keep their guard up when they host seventh-placed Bechem United at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The other fixtures this weekend involve relegation-threatened clubs and promise to be interesting and could produce some upsets.
• At the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast, Ebusua Dwarfs play host to Ashantigold, while Aduana Stars play Liberty Professionals at the Agyeman Badu park at Dormaa-Ahenkro.
• Wa All Stars will host Tema-based Amidaus Professionals, while New Edubaise United and Berekum Chelsea clash in a tricky duel at the Gyamfi Park at Bekwai.
•Tomorrow afternoon, fourth-placed Sekondi Hasaacas will engage 14th-placed Inter Allies at the Tema Park.
