The senior national team, Black Stars, are scheduled to leave Accra for Amsterdam tomorrow for the second leg of the preparations ahead of their 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil.
In Amsterdam, the Stars who are expected to be joined by Kevin-Prince Boateng, Michael Essien and Daniel Opare will play the Netherlands in an international friendly in Rotterdam on May 31.
Last Monday the team started their build-up towards the World Cup with non-residential training at the Accra Sports, and will this afternoon face a local select side to be handled by veteran coach, Herbert Addo, in what has been dubbed a farewell today.
The players who responded to Coach Kwasi Appiah’s call for non-residential camping included goalkeepers Stephen Adams and Fatau Dauda, defenders Samuel Inkoom, Harrison Afful, and Jerry Akaminko, midfielders Mohammed Rabiu, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Mubarak Wakaso, Christian Atsu and Kwadwo Asamoah, and striker Abdul Maheed Waris.
But there was nearly a full house on the second day as Captain Asamoah Gyan, Andre Dede Ayew, Sulley Ali Muntari, Jeffery Schlupp, Jordan Ayew, John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Albert Adomah and goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey turned up for the session last Wednesday morning.
Despite the key absence of Essien and Germany-based Boateng, who were excused to attend to personal issues in Europe, the Stars look set to secure a morale-boosting win over the local side which has been selected from a text poll by fans.
The local side comprise talents such as premiership top scorer, Augustine Okrah of Bechem United, Seidu Bancey and Jordan Opoku (Kotoko), George Owu (Hasaacas), Robert Dabuo (Ashantigold), Winful Cobbinah and Nuru Sulley (Hearts), Attamah Larweh and Nicholas Odjer (Tema Youth), Maxwell Mensah and Stephen Nyarko (Wa All Stars) who have been guaranteed a financial package of GH¢500 each.
