The Black Queens, Ghana’s senior female football team, are expected back home this evening following their elimination from the African Women’s Championship (AWC) being staged in Namibia.
The Queens were edged out from Group B by South Africa on better goal difference as they both earned four points behind group winners, Cameroun.
Reports reaching the Daily Graphic indicate that the Queens are threatening to petition the Justice Dzamfe Presidential Commission of Inquiry to claim the remainder of their qualification bonus, having received $6,000 out of the $12,000.
Though they won a game, the last group match against Cameroun, the Queens will not receive any bonuses apart from their per diem allowances, as the package is for qualification and not just winning.
This seems to have sparked the agitation for the outstanding bonus.
Having made an early exit from the AWC, the Queens have also lost out on an opportunity to compete at next year’s Women’s World Cup (WWC) to be staged in Canada, as the winners, the runners-up and third-place teams will qualify to represent Africa at the tournament.
