Berekum Chelsea docked points

The Disciplinary Committee (DC) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has declared Berekum Chelsea as losers of all their matches from February 4 until they settle their indebtedness to WAFA SC in relation to Solomon Asante’s transfer to TP Mazembe.

This decision, which has seen Chelsea dropping from the ninth to the 16th position on the league table, was in accordance with the automatic forfeiture of matches under Article 39(8)(d) of the GFA General Regulations despite the dismissal of Asante Kotoko’s protest against Chelsea on the same issue.

The DC found Chelsea guilty of failing to heed to a directive by the FA’s Player Status Committee to pay WAFA (then Feyenoord Academy) $59,722.23 -- being WAFA’s share of the transfer fee of Asante to TB Mazembe -- on or before February 1, 2014.

To date, the Berekum side has not fulfilled their indebtedness in spite of a 14-day ultimatum by the FA’s General Secretary for the debt to be settled by February 3.

By the ruling Chelsea were to forfeit three points and three goals for each of the six matches played after February 4.

Even though Chelsea lost all six matches against Accra Great Olympics, Medeama SC, Liberty Professionals, Asante Kotoko and New Edubiase United, the club lost 18 goals from their build-up (from +2 to -16), taking them to the bottom of the Premier League table.
