Equatorial Guinea coach Esteban Becker said he’s not satisfied but very proud of his young team after their goalless draw against Burkina Faso on Wednesday evening in the 2015 Africa cup of Nations.
In their opening match, they played to a 1-1 draw against Congo and they’re yet to win a match in the 30th edition of the continental showpiece, however, the coach will hope for a victory in their last group match on Sunday when they tackle Gabon.
Known as Nzalang Nacional (National Thunder) the hosts are placed at position three in the Group A standings with two points, leading the Burkinabe by a single point.
“I am not satisfied, I am very satisfied, very proud of this very young team that is 100% Equato-Guinean and who are defending the colours with passion,” said Becker.
“Burkina Faso are a very strong opponent with eight players in the French Ligue 1, we may look like ants compared to them but we fought back.
“We were serious in the first half even if we could have gone back to the changing room one goal down.
“We suffered a few tactical mistakes and lost the midfield battle. In the second half we made some efforts, we showed some courage and would have deserved to win.”
The hosts are set to face Gabon in their upcoming encounter on Sunday night at Bata Stadium at 19:00.
