Aubameyang says he was not at his best vs Congo

Aubameyang admits off day against Congo

Gabon skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has admitted he had an off day against Congo in a 2015 AFCON Group A clash in Bata on Wednesday.

Gabon fell 1-0 to lose group leadership to Congo after a sparkling opening day win over Burkina Faso inspired by Aubameyang.

“Personally, I am disappointed with my performance, I was not good tonight, I must admit it,” said the Borrussia Dormund star.

“We lacked freshness and failed to up the tempo. We played at their own rhythm and fell into their trap.

“Now, we must not put ourselves down and move forward.”

On Sunday night, Azingo National will be up against next-door neigbours and AFCON hosts Equatorial Guinea to determine the teams for the last-eight.

Equatorial Guinea need to win to stand any chance of going past the group stage after drawing their first two matches.

“It is not over, we have three points, we are still in good position to reach the quarter-finals,” insisted Gabon coach Jorge Costa.
