Ampem Darkoa yesterday beat defending champions, Hasaacas Ladies 1-0 to win this season's National Women's League (NWL) in the champions' play-off at the Cape Coast stadium.

The lone goal, scored by Grace Asantewaa on the 65th minute, helped the Techiman-based team win their first silverware since joining the NWL three seasons ago; and in the process, avenge the loss they suffered at the hands of Hasaacas in last season's final.

The team they also won three of the individual awards, with Princella Adubea who scored 18 goals in 13 matches winning the Top Scorer Award, Grace Asantewaa (Best Player), Evelyn Yeboa (Best Goalkeeper) to complete a very good season, while Hasaacas' Mabel Eshun won the Best Defender award.

The match lived up to its hype, with the two sides clearly showing why they topped the league in their respective zones, but while Hasaacas Ladies clearly showed they were missing some of their key players who had helped them win the title in the past, Ampem Darkoa showed they were more hungry for a title win, creating all sorts of trouble in their opponents' goal area.

It, therefore, came as no surprise when Asantewaa finally found the back of the net to take the lead. They held on till the final whistle and claimed the champions title which they had promised to deliver.

For their prize, Apem Darkoa received GH¢10,000 as the champions' prize while Hasaacas, still the record title holders, having won on three consecutive titles, received GH¢5,000 as the runners-up.
