The reviewed emoluments will see the vice president of the FA, Mr Mark Addo, receiving a monthly allowance of GH¢7,000 and a sitting allowance of GH¢1,400 at meetings.

The approved emoluments, which included per diem allowance for domestic and foreign travels, represented increments between 67 and 175 per cent.

Proposed allowances
Laying before the 26th Ordinary Congress at the GFA Technical Centre at Prampram, the proposed allowances and compensation for the 12-member ExCo, the chairman of the Ad-hoc Compensation Committee, Mr Frederick Moore, said the group arrived at the figures based on the consideration of the benchmark of other organisations, as well as what pertained in other countries in the West Africa sub-region.

“We’ve looked at the benchmark over the years, we’ve looked at other organisations in the country from small to large, we’ve looked at other West Africa associations and ultimately we looked at the impact of the FA and on the basis of that we came up with the recommendations,” he said.

The Managing Director of Hearts of Oak, Mr Moore, explained also that the enormity of the work of the FA president and his ExCo members was also factored into the decision to compensate them adequately in their travel, sitting and monthly allowances.

There were sharp disagreements among the members of the FA’s highest decision making body over the GH¢12,000 monthly allowance proposed for the FA president, with some delegates arguing strongly for the ExCo to be catered for adequately to ensure they give off their best for the association.

Mr Isaac Koomson, who represented Aduana Stars, argued that there was the need for prudence in the FA’s expenditure, particularly in recent times of scarce funds and suggested that the proposed allowance for the FA president be slashed to GH¢10,000.

Gruzah dissent
Veteran football administrator and founder of King Faisal, Alhaji Karim Gruzah, was also a strong dissenting voice as he impressed on the new administration to be guided by history and not to fleece the association’s coffers with their hefty allowances.

Ironically, when the issue was put to vote by popular acclamation, it was unanimously approved with only Alhaji Gruzah, who voted against the new proposal.

The approved compensation package will see the 10 other ExCo members taking a monthly allowance of GH¢4,000 each and GH¢1,300 as sitting allowance.

The FA president is to receive $500 per day on every international travel assignment, with $400 going to his vice and $300 for other council members.

It includes GH¢600 per day for domestic travels (accommodation and transport) for the president, GH¢500 for his vice and GH¢400 for other ExCo members.
