CHAN to be played in January 2021

The competition which was scheduled for Cameroun this year had to be rescheduled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The decision which was arrived at during the Executive Committee meeting of the continent’s football governing body also rescheduled the  2022 competition to be hosted by Algeria to 2023.

A statement issued by the CAF said  the competition which was “initially scheduled for April 4-25, 2020 and postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the final tournament of the Total African Nations Championship Cameroon 2020 will now take place on January 16 to February 7  2021.

CAF also assured of introducing a novel rule of making four substitutions which could only in an event of extra time during the elimination stages of the competition.

“In addition, the 4th substitution rule in the event of extra time at the knockout stages of the competitions will be applied.

Even though the next edition of the competition in Algeria has been rescheduled no date has been fixed and CAF said it would be subject to a discussion with football authorities of the host country.

“The final tournament of the Total African Nations Championship Algeria 2022 will be rescheduled to January 2023. The exact dates are to be discussed with the Algerian Football Federation”.
