Olympic Games: Samuel Takyi to fight Wednesday

Medal hopeful, Samuel Takyi is expected to make his maiden Olympics appearance on Wednesday as he awaits his opponent on the day.

Takyi will have to wait for the winner of Ukraine’s Butsenko Mykola bout with Caicedo Pachito from Ecuador in his debut dream fight.

The youngster, together with Black Bombers skipper, Sulemanu Tetteh, and Shakul Samed, will have to wait to wait temporarily after drawing a bye in the balloting.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports from the team’s Tokyo base, the 20-year-old Takyi said he was hopeful of going past his first opponent on Wednesday.

Takyi said he was ready to fight anyone at the Games, with the kind of preparation he had had in the past few months.

“I am ready to face any opponent but I have to wait to fight on Wednesday,” said Takyi. “Eveything is in place for me to have a good fight and I am ready to take the opportunity.

“I am just waiting for the winner of the bout so we can have a strategy for him on Wednesday but I am confident I will come out victorious,” he assured.

Team Ghana are looking forward to returning home with laurels despite having a few athletes in this year’s Tokyo Olympics.
