Ghana beats Togo in kick-boxing

Ghana defeated Togo 6-3 to win a kick-boxing international banter between the two nations which was organised by the Greater Accra Kick-Boxing Association at Nima in Accra Wednesday.

The fight saw seven fighters from each country squaring -off in various categories in the relatively unknown sporting discipline among sports loving fans  in the nation.

Togolese Abubakari Musa beat his Ghanaian contender, Solomon Bortey, in the second round of their round three encounter to pull out the first feat on the night for the neighbouring country.

Togo further led an onslaught which saw them win two more fights courtesy Abdulaye Iddrisu trouncing of Richard Essiey and Sadoom Malidou demolishing of fellow Ghanaian Isaac Commey.

But a Ghanaian resurgence in subsequent bouts saw Isaac Aikins destroy Ganio Osman with fantastic kicks on his body and quickie jabs on his chin and jaws to give Ghana her first victory.

This was followed by Alfred Adjartey who defeated Nuhu Abubakari and Jonathan Euro who pummelled his Togolese contender, Abubakari Osman into submission.

The nineth fight which happened to be the final contest between the two nations saw Stephen Bruce annihilate Omar Hamani to the joy of the fairly packed crowd who besieged the forecourts of the Frankies Hotel at Nima in Accra on the night.

Mr Yoofi Boham, organiser and coordinator of the vent appealed to the state and the Youth and Sports Ministry in particular, to take kick-boxing seriously, since according to him it has the potential of bringing home much honour and reward to the nation as well as a source of employment and a lucrative business venture.

He said countries that make the sport a priority has witnessed jobs for the youth and a decline in crime related offences and added that the discipline serves as a healthy workout for a strong nation.
