GBA to notify boxing bodies of Commey’s ban
The president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye, has promised to notify boxing bodies across the world to disregard former world champion, Richard Commey, as a Ghanaian boxer.
He also revealed that Commey’s manager, Michael Amoo-Bediako, had been banned from managing any Ghanaian boxer and also using Ghanaian boxers as punching bags outside the country without trainers in their corner.

“The two have violated Articles 18 and 21 Clause (b) of the rule and regulations governing professional boxing in Ghana,” he told the Daily Graphic on telephone in Accra yesterday.
Following a release by the GBA which contained the indefinite suspension of the duo and Streetwise Management for an act of disrespect and misconduct, Mr Neequaye vowed to clampdown on any acts of indiscipline and disregard for the laws of the GBA.
Grounds for ban
“These two persons bad-mouthed the GBA in an interview at the Charles Quartey Gym a fortnight ago which has gone viral and vowed never to pay the required percentage purse due the GBA,” he revealed.
Recalling what led to that incident, Mr Neequaye said the GBA invited Mr Amoo-Bediako to discuss why he travelled with Ghanaian boxers to Europe and America for bouts without their trainers, thereby depriving them of victory.
“We also asked him why he has not fulfilled the percentage purse of their recent bout which the GBA was entitled to,” he added.
According to the GBA boss, Mr Amoo-Bediako got infuriated in the heat of the discussion and walked out of the meeting.
He said a few days later, he and Commey were heard throwing tantrums at the GBA and its executives.
“They asked us to go for spiritual money if we wanted money and called us good for nothing and useless, vowing never to pay anything, hence the action taken against them,” he explained.
